Love That Feels Like Home
There is a kind of love that doesn’t make you perform.
You don’t have to monitor every word.
You don’t have to wonder whether being honest will be used against you later.
You don’t have to keep parts of yourself hidden just to keep the peace.
You can let your hair down.
You can exhale.
You can be silly.
You can be tired.
You can admit when you’re scared.
You can say, “I don’t know.”
You can be strong without always having to be the strong one.
That kind of love feels like home.
Not because it is perfect.
But because it is safe.
Genesis describes Adam and Eve as naked and unashamed.
And while we often read those words physically, I think there is something beautiful in them emotionally too.
To be fully seen…
and not ashamed.
To be known…
and not rejected.
To expose the tender places in your heart and trust that the person beside you will handle them with care.
That is intimacy.
Real intimacy isn’t simply physical closeness.
It is being able to tell someone the truth about yourself without immediately reaching for armor.
It is knowing your weaknesses won’t become ammunition during the next argument.
Your fears won’t become jokes.
Your past won’t be held over your head.
Your vulnerability won’t make you less lovable.
Safe love says:
You don’t have to hide here.
And maybe that is why some relationships exhaust us while others allow us to rest.
One requires constant performance.
The other gives us permission to simply be.
Home is supposed to be the place where you take your shoes off.
Where you stop entertaining.
Where you don’t have to impress anyone.
Where the door closes and you can finally breathe.
Love should feel something like that.
Not walking on eggshells.
Not constantly proving your worth.
Not wondering which version of yourself will be acceptable today.
Just two people becoming increasingly honest, increasingly known, and increasingly safe with one another.
Because perhaps one of the greatest forms of intimacy is being able to stand emotionally naked before someone…
and still feel covered.
Not covered by pretending.
Covered by grace.
Covered by trust.
Covered by the quiet assurance that being fully known does not make you less worthy of love.
That is the kind of love that feels like home.
A place where you can let your hair down, lay your armor down, and still know you are safe.
