To Defend the Past Will Break the Present
One of the hardest things to let go of is the need to defend our past.
We defend old decisions.
Old relationships.
Old versions of ourselves.
Old wounds.
Old mistakes.
We spend so much energy explaining who we were that we neglect who we’re becoming.
The truth is, your past doesn’t need a lawyer.
It needs a lesson.
Every season of your life served a purpose, but not every season deserves a permanent address. Growth requires the courage to say, “I was there, but I’m not there anymore.”
When we keep defending yesterday, we rob today of its peace. We become prisoners of old narratives instead of embracing the new story God is writing.
You don’t owe everyone an explanation.
Sometimes your greatest response is your transformation.
Let your life be the evidence that God heals, restores, and makes all things new.
Stop defending the past.
Start living the present.
Because the person God is calling you to become will always be greater than the person you’re trying to explain.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
