What’s Something You Used to Worry About but Don’t Anymore?
When I was younger, I worried about whether I would ever get married.
I think, deep down, many little girls dream about their wedding day. It’s almost woven into our imagination. Someone once joked that we start planning our weddings at three years old, and honestly, they may not be far off.
For a long time, I wondered if that day would ever come for me.
But life has a way of maturing your perspective.
The older I’ve become, the more I’ve realized that marriage is a blessing—but it was never meant to be the measure of a meaningful life. Not everyone will get married, and that’s okay. Our worth has never been determined by a ring, a wedding date, or a relationship status.
My grandmother always hoped I’d marry, and I understand why. She wanted companionship for me. She wanted someone to walk through life beside me.
And perhaps one day, that will happen.
But if it doesn’t…
My life is still full.
Somewhere along the way, I stopped waiting for my life to begin and realized I was already living it.
I’ve learned to enjoy my own company.
To protect my peace.
To find joy in quiet mornings, meaningful friendships, family, writing, and the freedom this season of life has given me. I don’t have to share my space, and I get to choose when—or if—I want to be bothered. (And yes… there’s something wonderfully peaceful about that.
If God has marriage in my future, I’ll receive it with gratitude.
If He doesn’t, I’ll continue to receive every good gift He’s already placed in my life.
Because peace doesn’t come from having someone beside you.
It comes from knowing the One who has been beside you all along.
Sometimes we spend so much time waiting for the life we imagined that we miss the beauty of the life we’re already living.
And I’ve learned that contentment isn’t settling for less.
It’s recognizing that God’s presence has always been more than enough.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” — Psalm 23:1
