It’s Just a Parenthesis in Your Story
Sometimes we go through seasons that feel so heavy, so painful, and so consuming that we convince ourselves they define our entire life.
The heartbreak.
The divorce.
The betrayal.
The failure.
The loss.
The depression.
The mistake.
The season where everything seemed to fall apart.
But what if it’s not the whole story?
What if it’s only a parenthesis?
A brief interruption.
A side note.
A moment of explanation between two greater chapters.
Parentheses hold information, but they do not carry the entire sentence. They may add context to the story, but they are not the story itself.
And maybe that’s what we forget while we are hurting.
Pain has a way of magnifying temporary seasons until they feel permanent. We begin introducing ourselves through our wounds instead of through our growth. We start believing that what happened to us somehow became who we are.
But it didn’t.
It was a chapter.
A lesson.
A detour.
A breaking point that perhaps became a rebuilding point.
Just a parenthesis.
The beautiful thing about life is that sentences continue after the interruption.
There is still more to write.
More to experience.
More healing.
More laughter.
More love.
More purpose.
Even Scripture is filled with people whose lowest moments were only parentheses in larger stories. A denial, a betrayal, a wilderness season, a failure, a loss — yet none of those moments became the final definition of their lives.
And neither should yours.
One day you may look back at this season that nearly broke you and realize it was only a small portion of a much bigger journey. Necessary perhaps. Painful certainly. But not permanent.
So give yourself permission to stop treating temporary pain like a final conclusion.
You are still becoming.
Still growing.
Still healing.
Still writing.
And the sentence does not end here.
