If the Salary Were the Same

Today’s prompt asks:

If the salary were the same, what job would you be doing right now and why?

I’d probably be sitting at home writing.

Not because I hate my current job—I don’t.

It has simply taught me that sometimes what you’re good at and what brings you joy aren’t necessarily the same thing.

Writing gives me something different.

It gives me joy.

I love taking an ordinary thought, a memory, a conversation, or something I’ve lived through and turning it into words that might make someone else stop and think.

I’d love to spend my days writing, creating, reflecting, and building something that reaches people beyond my own little corner of the world.

And if I’m being completely honest…

I’d love for it to eventually pay me more than my current job does.

But the money isn’t the only reason.

I’d choose writing because there is something deeply fulfilling about being able to say:

“I created this.”

Maybe one day I’ll be sitting at home with coffee beside me, writing for a living.

And perhaps I’ll look back and realize that what started as something I simply enjoyed doing became the thing I was meant to do.

Because sometimes purpose doesn’t feel like work.

Sometimes it feels like the thing you would still choose even if no one was paying you yet.

And for me…

that’s writing.
