What is your favorite quote?

Today’s Prompt: What’s your favorite quote?

I have two.

The first is:

“To thine own self be true.”William Shakespeare

The older I get, the more I understand what those words mean.

There is so much pressure to become who everyone else expects us to be. To fit in. To seek approval. To wear masks that slowly make us forget who we really are.

But peace comes when you stop performing and start living authentically.

Being true to yourself doesn’t mean being perfect.

It means living honestly.

The second quote has shaped my life just as deeply:

“You should only pass this way but once. Therefore, if there is any good that I can do, or any kindness I can show to any fellow human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

None of us knows how much time we’ve been given.

That’s why I believe kindness shouldn’t be postponed.

Encouragement shouldn’t be delayed.

Forgiveness shouldn’t wait.

Love shouldn’t be reserved for “someday.”

We’re only passing through this life once.

I want the words I speak to matter.

The people I love to know it.

The opportunities to help someone never to be ignored because I assumed there would always be another chance.

If I could combine both quotes into one life philosophy, it would simply be this:

Be true to who God created you to be… and while you’re here, leave every person and every place a little better than you found it.

Because in the end, I don’t think we’ll be remembered for what we accumulated.

We’ll be remembered for how we lived.

And how we loved.
