Let’s Start a Conversation

Weekly question: What Are You Still Carrying That No Longer Belongs to You?

What Are You Still Carrying That No Longer Belongs to You?

At some point, many of us become collectors.

Not of things, but of burdens.

Old disappointments.
Unspoken words.
Guilt that should have been released years ago.
Expectations placed on us by others.
Labels that never fit.
Responsibilities that were never ours to carry.

Over time, the weight becomes familiar. So familiar that it can begin to feel like part of our identity.

But familiar and necessary are not the same thing.

Sometimes the heaviest things being carried were handed over by someone else.

The criticism that became self-doubt.

The rejection that became a belief of not being enough.

The mistake that became a life sentence long after the lesson had been learned.

The role of fixer, rescuer, peacemaker, or protector that slowly turned into exhaustion.

There comes a moment when an honest question must be asked:

What is still being carried that no longer belongs here?

Perhaps it is a grudge that has outlived its purpose.

Perhaps it is shame attached to a chapter that has already ended.

Perhaps it is the need to prove worth to people who have already made up their minds.

Perhaps it is someone else’s opinion that was never meant to become a permanent resident in the heart.

Growth is not always about picking up something new.

Sometimes growth is setting something down.

Not because it never mattered.

Not because it didn’t hurt.

But because carrying it any longer is preventing the journey ahead.

The truth is, not every burden is meant to be carried forever.

Some things were lessons.
Some things were seasons.
Some things were never ours to begin with.

So today, consider this:

What are you still carrying that no longer belongs to you?

And what might become possible if you finally put it down?

This really makes you pause and look inward. I think many of us carry things for so long that we forget we even have the option to put them down. It’s a beautiful reminder that releasing what no longer belongs to us can create space for healing, growth, and new beginnings.
