Today’s Prompt: If you could be haunted by any Ghost of Christmas, which one would you choose?
Without a doubt…
The Ghost of Christmas Past.
Not because I want to relive my mistakes.
But because I’d love to revisit the moments that made me who I am.
I’d love to walk once again down those red clay roads of South Georgia.
To hear my grandmother’s laughter.
To sit beside my great-grandmother and listen to her stories one more time.
To smell Sunday dinner cooking in the kitchen and hear family talking on the front porch.
I’d love to remember Christmases when the greatest joy wasn’t found under the tree, but around it.
When love was measured in time together instead of the price of a gift.
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that memories become some of our greatest treasures.
Not because we want to live in the past…
But because they remind us of the people who loved us into becoming who we are today.
If the Ghost of Christmas Past stopped by for just one evening, I don’t think I’d ask to change a thing.
I’d simply say…
“Thank you.”
Thank you for the humble beginnings.
Thank you for the lessons.
Thank you for the family who laid the foundation.
Thank you for the memories that still make me smile.
Because while we can’t go back…
We can carry those moments forward by living the same love they showed us.
And perhaps that’s the greatest Christmas gift of all.
The people we love never truly leave us. They continue to live in our traditions, our stories, and the love we pass on to the next generation.
