Do you believe in karma?
Do You Believe in Karma?
Yes and no.
I don’t necessarily believe in karma in the traditional sense—that some cosmic force is sitting somewhere keeping score and deciding when people will get what they deserve.
But I do believe in sowing and reaping.
I believe what we put into the world matters.
If you sow kindness, you help create kindness.
If you sow love, you create an atmosphere where love can grow.
If you constantly sow bitterness, negativity, and hurt, eventually you have to live in the environment those things create.
And sometimes the harvest isn’t even about what happens around you.
Sometimes it’s about what happens inside you.
When you spend your life helping people, encouraging people, and showing up for people, you become someone who knows how to love well.
When you choose forgiveness instead of bitterness, you may not change the person who hurt you—but you change what that hurt is allowed to become inside of you.
And let’s be honest…
Sometimes we want karma to hurry up.
We want to grab the popcorn and watch somebody finally get what we think they deserve.
But I’ve learned that isn’t really my job.
God can handle the balancing of the scales.
My responsibility is to pay attention to what I’m planting.
Because eventually, we all have to live among the seeds we’ve sown.
So do I believe in karma?
Yes and no.
I believe choices have consequences.
I believe kindness can come full circle.
I believe love multiplies.
And I believe what Scripture teaches about sowing and reaping:
“Whatever a man sows, that will he also reap.” — Galatians 6:7
So I’m going to keep planting good seeds.
Even when nobody notices.
Even when I don’t get credit.
Even when the person I’m kind to isn’t kind to me.
Because I’m not planting my seeds for them.
I’m planting them because that’s the kind of garden I want to live in.
Thinking out loud…
Maybe we spend too much time waiting for somebody else’s karma…
and not enough time asking ourselves what kind of harvest we’re planting for.
