Who is your favorite cartoon character?
Today’s Prompt: Who’s Your Favorite Cartoon Character?
After years of watching cartoons with my kids, this one is harder than it should be.
I’m torn between Rugrats and CatDog. Those were some GOOD cartoon years.
But if I have to choose just one character?
It’s gotta be Angelica Pickles.
If you know, YOU KNOW.
Angelica was a BRAT.
Bossy. Dramatic. Manipulative. Always terrorizing Tommy and those babies. She could create an entire crisis, blame everybody else, and somehow walk away completely convinced that she had done absolutely nothing wrong.
And poor Cynthia!
That doll looked like she’d been through three divorces, a recession, and a custody battle…
and Angelica was SIX.
But here’s the truth.
Maybe I loved Angelica because I recognized a little something in her.
I was a mini Angelica growing up.
I gave my granny a RUN for her money.
I remember one time we had a terrible storm. The power was out, power lines were down, and everybody in the house suddenly realized…
“Where’s Chelle?”
They’re searching the house.
Calling my name.
Probably panicking.
And where was little Chelle?
Outside.
Coming down the road like I didn’t have a care in the world…
JUMPING OVER LIVE POWER LINES.
Listen.
My granny didn’t raise a child.
That woman survived an event.
So perhaps I shouldn’t judge Angelica too harshly.
I understood the assignment.
Was Angelica my favorite because she was sweet?
Absolutely not.
She was entertaining because she was completely, unapologetically Angelica.
And decades later, the fact that I can still hear that child yelling, “You dumb babies!” tells me everything I need to know.
So yes…
I’m going with Angelica Pickles.
Now it’s your turn:
Who’s your favorite cartoon character of all time—and WHY?
And here’s the bonus question:
Were YOU the Angelica in your family?
Because apparently…
I was.
