A Life That Mattered
That’s a difficult question.
For a long time, I wasn’t sure I even allowed myself to dream that far ahead.
Life has a way of teaching you to focus on the next step instead of the next decade.
But if I’m honest…
I don’t think my biggest dream is a place or a possession.
I think my biggest dream is to live a life that mattered.
To build a home where people always felt welcome.
To become the kind of grandmother whose grandchildren remember the stories more than the gifts.
To sit on a porch somewhere, surrounded by family, watching another generation laugh while sharing recipes, traditions, and memories that have been passed down for decades.
I’d love to visit the French Riviera one day.
To wander through quiet villages.
To linger in cafés.
To experience cultures different from my own.
I’d love to build things with my own hands.
To write books that encourage people long after I’m gone.
To leave behind words that remind someone they are loved, they have purpose, and that God hasn’t forgotten them.
But if you asked me what my greatest dream is…
It’s much simpler than that.
I want to finish well.
I want my children to know they were deeply loved.
I want my grandchildren to know where they came from.
I want them to inherit more than photographs.
I want them to inherit faith.
Stories.
Traditions.
And a family that remembers.
I hope people remember me not because of what I owned…
But because of how they felt in my presence.
I hope they remember a woman who chose grace over bitterness.
Faith over fear.
People over possessions.
And love over pride.
Because when our lives are over…
I don’t believe we’ll be remembered for our titles.
Or our accomplishments.
We’ll be remembered for the lives we touched.
Perhaps that’s my biggest dream.
To leave this world just a little kinder than I found it.
And when my story is over…
I hope someone smiles and says,
“She loved well. She lived intentionally. And she pointed people toward hope.”
To me…
That would be a life well lived.
