What is the best purchase you have ever made?

Today’s Prompt: What’s the best purchase you ever made?

Without a doubt…

A week at a beach house with my adult children.

Not because it was luxurious.

Not because it was expensive.

But because it gave us something money can never buy back…

Time.

There was something so special about waking up before everyone else to make breakfast—not because I had to, but because I wanted to. It reminded me that some of the greatest expressions of love are found in the ordinary.

We stayed up far too late playing games, laughing until our stomachs hurt, telling stories we’d all heard before but loved just the same.

Then, before the world woke up, I’d slip onto the balcony with a cup of coffee to watch the sunrise paint the sky.

One morning, a doe wandered quietly through the landscape below. As I sat there in the stillness, coffee in one hand and my thoughts in the other, I realized something.

This…

This is wealth.

Not the size of a house.

Not the balance in a bank account.

Not the things we accumulate.

But the privilege of watching the people you love become adults…

…and discovering they still choose to spend time with you.

As parents, we spend years wishing our children would grow up.

Then one day they do.

And suddenly, every breakfast around the table, every late-night conversation, every sunrise, every shared cup of coffee becomes something you quietly tuck away in your heart.

Because you realize these moments won’t last forever.

One day, the beach house will belong to someone else.

The games will be packed away.

The coffee cups will be washed.

But the memories…

Those belong to us forever.

The older I get, the more I realize I’m no longer collecting things.

I’m collecting moments.

Because things eventually wear out.

But memories become part of who we are.

And when I look back on my life, I don’t think I’ll remember every purchase I ever made.

I’ll remember the week we slowed down long enough to simply be together.

Because in the end…

The best purchase I ever made wasn’t a beach rental.

It was a week of uninterrupted memories with the people I love.
