Today’s Prompt: What book deserved a sequel?
Without a doubt… Pride and Prejudice.
Most people remember the love story between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.
I remember the transformation.
Elizabeth learned that first impressions can be misleading.
Darcy learned that pride without humility creates distance.
They didn’t simply fall in love—they became better people because they were willing to confront the flaws within themselves.
That’s why I’d love a sequel.
Not another courtship.
I’d want to read about the marriage.
How did they navigate disagreements?
How did two strong-willed people learn to communicate?
How did they build a home after the excitement of the wedding had faded?
Because that’s where the real love story begins.
Anyone can write about falling in love.
The greater story is learning how to remain in love.
I would love to watch Elizabeth and Darcy grow old together—weathering disappointment, celebrating joy, raising a family, and discovering that lasting love isn’t sustained by grand declarations.
It’s built through thousands of quiet, ordinary choices made over a lifetime.
Perhaps that’s why the novel has endured for more than two centuries.
It reminds us that the best relationships aren’t between perfect people.
They’re between people willing to keep growing.
The older I get, the less interested I am in fairy tales…
and the more interested I become in covenant.
The wedding is one chapter.
The marriage is the story.
And I think Jane Austen would have written that story beautifully.
