Weekly Question:
Are you holding on to someone…
or are you holding on to a story?
Are you holding on to someone…
or are you holding on to a story?
Sometimes we tell ourselves we’re holding on to a person.
But if we’re honest, the person may have changed.
They may have moved on.
Or they may never have existed in the way we imagined them to.
What we may actually be holding on to is the story.
The story of what could have been.
The story of who we thought they were.
The story of the future we created in our minds.
The story of the love we hoped would grow.
The story that if we just waited a little longer, things would somehow be different.
Holding on to a person means accepting who they are today.
Holding on to a story means remaining attached to who they were, who we wanted them to be, or who we hoped they would become.
Neither is easy to let go of.
So here’s the question.
If that person walked into your life today exactly as they are right now—
not as they were,
not as you remember them,
but exactly as they are today—
would you still choose them?
Or are you holding on to a chapter that ended long ago because the story was beautiful?
Conversation Rule:
No blaming.
No judging.
No fixing.
Just honest reflection.
Are you holding on to the person…
or the story you wrote about them?
Let’s talk about it.
