The One He Chastens

There is a kind of love

that does not correct…

and then there is the love of God.

The kind that won’t let you stay where you are

when He knows who you are becoming.

God chastens the ones He loves.

Not to punish—

but to prepare.

Not to break you—

but to build you.

It’s no different than a parent

who refuses to let their child walk blindly into harm.

A good parent corrects.

A good parent redirects.

A good parent says “no”

even when the child doesn’t understand why.

Because love sees further than feelings.

And as parents…

there are moments when one child may feel

like we are harder on them than the others.

More correction.

More conversations.

More expectation.

And to them, it can feel like—

“Why me?”

But what they don’t always see is this:

It’s not about favoritism.

It’s about vision.

Sometimes, a parent sees something in a child

that the child hasn’t yet seen in themselves.

A strength.

A calling.

A light that burns a little brighter…

a little stronger…

a little different.

And with that light comes responsibility.

So we guide them differently.

We correct them differently.

We hold them to a different standard.

Not because we love them more—

but because we see more in them.

And God does the same.

The one He chastens

is often the one He has called.

The one He corrects

is often the one He is preparing.

Because He sees the weight they will carry.

He sees the lives they will impact.

He sees the strength they don’t yet understand.

There are moments when His correction feels uncomfortable—

when doors close,

when things don’t go the way we planned,

when conviction sits heavy on our hearts.

But that is not rejection.

That is refinement.

Because if He didn’t care,

He would let you stay stuck.

He would let you remain unchanged.

He would let you settle beneath your calling.

But He doesn’t.

Because you are loved.

So when it feels like God is being harder on you…

pause and consider—

Maybe it’s not punishment.

Maybe it’s purpose.

Maybe He is saying:

“I see something in you…

and I won’t let you settle for less.”
