Meeting Them Where They Are

by Valrelyn

Our journey has only just begun.

Or perhaps, if I am honest, it began a while ago.

At first, the changes were small.

A forgotten word.

A misplaced thought.

Moments we quietly brushed aside as part of the natural rhythm of aging.

We told ourselves it was nothing.

But now the road before us looks different, and I will not pretend to have all the answers.

Like Joshua standing before the Jordan, I find myself whispering the same truth:

“We have not been this way before.”

— Joshua 3:4

Others will tell you their stories.

They will share their experiences, their fears, their warnings about what may lie ahead. And while I know those words are often given in love, I must remember something important.

Every journey is different.

No two paths unfold the same way.

So I cannot live in the fear of someone else’s story.

I can listen.

I can learn.

I can store their wisdom for the days that may come.

But today, I choose something else.

I choose to meet you where you are.

Right here.

Right now.

And there is beauty in that.

Because when we stop trying to chase what may be lost tomorrow, we discover the gift that still lives in today.

We get to create new moments.

New laughter.

New memories.

Moments that, in time, you may forget.

But I never will.

And perhaps that is part of love’s calling in this season—to carry the memories when the one we love cannot.

To hold the story for both of us.

Because the journey of life is not measured only by what we remember, but by the love we choose to live along the way.

So I will walk this road with you.

One moment at a time.

Meeting you exactly where you are.
