More Than Music—It Was an Experience
If you asked me the best concert I’ve ever been to…
I couldn’t give you just one.
Because some moments don’t compete—
they each leave their own mark.
The first would have to be Prince.
Back in the 80s, in Tallahassee.
And when I tell you… amazing doesn’t even begin to cover it.
The stage, the energy, the way he moved—it was like watching art come to life. I still remember the bed coming down from the ceiling, the crowd dressed in purple like it was a uniform, like we all understood the assignment without saying a word.
His presence?
Unmatched.
Then there was Luther Vandross.
Same city, different feeling.
If you weren’t in love when you walked in…
you were by the time you left.
His voice wrapped around the room in a way that made everything feel softer. Slower. More intentional. He didn’t just sing—he made you feel every word.
But my all-time favorite?
Hands down… Patti LaBelle.
In Albany.
Now that was more than a concert—it was an experience.
She didn’t just perform… she connected.
Telling stories about her childhood, laughing, engaging with the crowd like we were all sitting in her living room. I remember hearing someone tried to steal her “Dorothy shoes,” and somehow even that became part of the moment.
And Patti?
She’ll roll around on that stage, sing her heart out, and leave every ounce of herself right there with you.
By the time it’s over…
you don’t feel like a fan.
You feel like family.
And that’s what made it unforgettable.
Because the best concerts aren’t just about music—
they’re about how they make you feel.
And those three?
They gave me something I’ll never forget.
