If you asked me what simple pleasure in life brings me the most joy…
I could probably give you a long list.

I’ve always been creative.

I love painting.
Sewing.
Designing.
Writing.
Cooking.

Creating things with my hands has always felt natural to me. It’s how I express love, comfort, and care.

But if I had to choose just one simple pleasure…
it would probably be cooking.

Not just because I love creating new recipes or trying different things in the kitchen—but because of what cooking creates around the food.

Connection.

There’s something special about preparing a meal for the people you love. Inviting family and friends over, gathering around a table, sitting together without rushing… and simply enjoying each other in that moment.

That brings me joy.

I’ve always loved entertaining. Not in a fancy or extravagant way—but in a meaningful one. I enjoy getting to know people, hearing their stories, laughing, talking, lingering a little longer after the plates are empty.

Years ago, I hosted a women’s Bible study group in my home. I prepared all the food myself, and we would gather together to eat, study, and fellowship.

And what I learned during that season was this:

Walls come down around a table.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a simple meal or a five-course dinner. Something about sharing food softens people. Conversations become easier. Hearts open. People feel seen.

If you really want to get to know someone…
cook for them.

Because food isn’t just nourishment for the body.
Sometimes it nourishes the soul too.

And for me, joy often looks like the simplest acts:

• baking something homemade,
• delivering treats to an elderly neighbor during the holidays,
• preparing a meal for someone who needs comfort,
• or simply sharing what I have.

Nothing extravagant.
Just intentional.

Because some of life’s greatest pleasures aren’t found in big moments.

Sometimes they’re found in a warm kitchen…
a full table…
and the people gathered around it.
